Liposuction is a cosmetic technique used to remove unwanted fat deposits. These deposits of body fat are usually due to an inborn tendency to deposit fat in one particular area of the body, commonly the hips. Other areas include the neck, arms, tummy, loins, thighs and around the knees and ankles.
If you have a localised area of fat it is possible to reduce its bulk by liposuction. The area to be treated is injected with solutions and then a narrow metal tube is inserted through a small cut in the skin. This is attached to a strong vacuum pump and the tube is drawn backward and forwards within the fatty area. This process will remove the fat leaving your small blood vessels and nerves intact. Your skin should then retract.
Fat cells do not appear to regenerate in adult life. This means that removal by liposuction will give you a permanent change in contour and be independent of any changes in your body weight.
